Morehead State receives $4.02M grant to help youth develop higher education skills

Covers 11 Eastern Kentucky counties

MOREHEAD, Ky. (Aug. 4, 2016) — Morehead State University has received $4.02 million in funding over the next five years—$804,960 per year—from the U.S. Department of Education for its two Talent Search Programs.

The Talent Search Programs, which serve 1,677 middle and high school students in Bath, Carter, Elliott, Greenup, Johnson, Lewis, Magoffin, Menifee, Morgan, Powell and Rowan counties, identifies and assists individuals who have the potential to succeed in higher education.

The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to and complete their postsecondary education. The program publicizes the availability of financial aid and assists participants with the postsecondary application process. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education.
