COVINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 21, 2013) ā UpTech, a business informatics accelerator supported by a group of Northern Kentucky community investors, will celebrate the grand opening of its new Covington headquarters on Friday, Nov. 22.
UpTech, whose investors include Northern Kentucky Tri-ED, Northern Kentucky ezone, Northern Kentucky University and Vision 2015, is an intense, six-month accelerator program that was started in June 2012. Through a series of programs, UpTech guides participant start-ups through areas of business development that range from marketing and fundraising to market research and pitching the company to both investors and clients.
UpTechās newly renovated space at 112 W. Pike Street was realized through its partnership with the City of Covington.Ā Investing $196,125 over the next five years, Covington commissioners gave a unanimous vote to support UpTech to drive investment in the urban core.
āUpTech will help drive the growth of our entrepreneurial community in Covington and the region,ā said Covington Mayor Sherry Carran. āUpTech identifies and nurtures individuals with innovative ideas. The cityās economic development focus is very much on the small to mid-size business, high-tech space, so this partnership was a no-brainer.ā
The new space features an open co-working hall, breakout rooms to inspire creativity, multipurpose conference rooms, a retreat lounge and hospitality area, as well as a Northern Kentucky University satellite library that will offer literary resources featuring relevant topics to assist entrepreneurs.
John Schlipp, intellectual property librarian and director of NKUās Intellectual Property Awareness Center said, āSmall business start-ups spend much time getting their business market plan, financial budget, and human resource needs into place. Yet, intellectual property is often overlooked until itās too late. We can assist small businesses with patents, trade secrets, licensing, trademarks, and copyrights.ā
