FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky State University’s (KSU) School of Business is hosting the 47th Kentucky Economic Association (KEA) Annual Conference on Friday, October 25, on campus. The organization membership includes faculty and students in economics and business programs from public and private institutions throughout the Commonwealth.
Bruce K. Johnson, the James Graham Brown Professor of Economics at Centre College in Danville, is being recognized as the 2024 Kentucky Distinguished Economist Award recipient.

Dr. Johnson has taught core economics courses including principles, microeconomics, and econometrics as well as many electives including experimental economics, urban economics, and the economics of sports. Johnson’s research primarily focuses on sports economics. He is best known for his influential articles applying non-market valuation techniques to assess the benefits and costs of public funding for teams, stadiums and the Olympics.
He chairs the Consensus Forecasting Group, the non-partisan citizen body charged by state law to produce the official forecast of state tax revenues used to produce the state budget.
“We are happy to support the Kentucky Economic Association by hosting their Annual Conference,” said KSU President Dr. Koffi C. Akakpo. “This conference will help foster greater communication and collaboration between economists of various disciplines on economic and public policy topics that are key to the betterment of the Commonwealth.”
Dr. Gary Stratton, chair of the KSU School of Business, expressed that the department is proud of the faculty and students who are presenting research and volunteering to host the event.
“The School of Business is pleased to host the KEA meeting. We look forward to a wonderful conference, and we are proud of our KSU students and faculty that are presenting research and volunteering to ensure that attendees have a wonderful experience on our campus,” Stratton said.
All Kentucky economists, and economics and business students are invited to attend and encouraged to participate through presentation and discussion of research, session leadership, and networking.
