The Georgetown-Scott County Airport is adding a terminal building and ramp extension, among other improvements, as part of a $4 million expansion. The timeline on the project is being moved up in order to accommodate the expected air traffic associated with the impending 2010 FEI Alltech World Equestrian Games, which will be held at the nearby Kentucky Horse Park. Data from a study commissioned by the airport indicate that the games will bring an additional 200 daily flights to the area; the Georgetown-Scott County Airport anticipates handling 60 daily flights during the games. Once the games are over, the expansion will enable the airport to accommodate more planes and provide additional space for charters and other aviation-related businesses.
