Kentucky Science Center MakerPlace gets an upgrade

LOUISVILLE, Ky, — Kentucky Science Center has long provided a place where children and families can tinker, hack, and create without worrying about making a mess. Now, thanks to the support of GE Appliances, MakerPlace will offer even more opportunities to explore making and the limits of imagination.

As part of their sponsorship, GE Appliances will provide financial support for MakerPlace activities and programming. Additionally, GE Appliances will leverage their employees and interns alongside the FirstBuild community to lead MakerPlace activities and further encourage students to pursue careers in STEAM fields.

Kentucky Science Center Chief Executive Officer Mike Norman believes this new collaboration will amplify the organization’s commitment to workforce development. “Thanks to GE Appliances’ investment, Kentucky Science Center will be able to increase STEAM programming opportunities and introduce children to the next-generation skills that they’ll need to succeed in the 21^st century workforce,” says Norman. “We’re thrilled to continue to serve as an important regional source for these critical learning opportunities.”

MakerPlace is open regularly for drop-in exploration opportunities, which are included free as part of your general admission to Kentucky Science Center. Make and Take tickets, which allow you to complete a take-home item, can be purchased at the Kentucky Science Center ticket desk for $5.

For a more in-depth maker experience, families with children age 8+ can register for MakerPlace Workshops. Available on a monthly basis, each workshop is arranged around a central maker activity like paint pouring or soldering.  More information on upcoming MakerPlace Workshops, including schedules and pricing, can be found at kysci.org/programs/makerplace-workshops.

Kentucky Science Center is located at 727 W. Main Street on Louisville’s historic Museum Row and is open to the public seven days a week from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Our 50,000 square feet of space allows families plenty of opportunities to explore, experiment, and Do Science.
