Customers of the Tennessee Valley Authority are seeing their electric bills increase by an average of 20 percent as the result of the TVA’s recent rate increase. TVA officials said the increase was necessitated by increased fuel costs and a three-year rainfall shortage that has resulted in reduced flows of rivers and levels of lakes that feed the TVA’s hydroelectric power plants. Customers will see an average increase of $12 to $15 per 1,000 kilowatt-hours.
