North Carolina-based Speedway Motorsports Inc. has completed its purchase of the Kentucky Speedway, making it the ninth in a group of racetracks owned by Speedway that includes the Atlanta Motor Speedway, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. In announcing the completion of the deal, Speedway CEO Bruton Smith reiterated Speedway’s plans to expand event scheduling at the Kentucky Speedway. “Since we announced this acquisition in May, we have been overwhelmed with the response of fans expressing their support and desire for a Sprint Cup event at Kentucky Speedway,” Smith said. “We will continue to work with NASCAR to bring a Sprint Cup race to this fine facility as soon as possible.” The Kentucky Speedway features a 1.5-mile tri-oval speedway with grandstand seating for approximately 66,000. The track currently hosts a NASCAR Nationwide Series race, a NASCAR Camping World truck series and an IndyCar Series race.
