Transportation grant has allowed 2,076 students to visit state parks

Seven schools received grants this spring

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 9, 2016) — Students from seven schools visited state parks this spring through a transportation grant program sponsored by the Kentucky State Park Foundation. Through two years KSPF’s “Inside Out Education” program has allowed 2,076 Kentucky students to learn about the environment, history or culture at a Kentucky State Park.

“The Inside Out Education grant has been a great benefit for school groups that can’t afford field trips,” said Rob Minerich, park manager at Fort Boonesborough State Park. “The best part of my job is seeing children visit our fort and engage in hands-on frontier life. The education and experience these children get from this program can’t be duplicated in the classroom.”

• Livingston Central High School, Kenlake State Resort Park
• Mill Creek Leadership Academy (Jefferson County), Cumberland Falls State Resort Park
• Leestown Middle School (Fayette County), Carter Caves State Resort Park
• George Rogers Clark High School (Clark County), Carter Caves State Resort Park
• Boston School (Nelson County), Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site
• Sayre School Summer Safari (Fayette County), Natural Bridge State Resort Park
• Pleasant View Elementary (Whitley County), Levi Jackson State Park
