Promotes arts in Kentucky schools
FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 10, 2016) ā The deadline to apply for a Kentucky Arts Council TranspARTation Grant is May 17 for field trips scheduled from July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2017. Any Kentucky public or private school that supports grades pre-K through 12 may apply for a TranspARTation Grant.
Grants are based on the mileage from the school building to the arts organization or performance venue and the number of buses necessary. There is a minimum grant amount of $100.
Students at Clarkson Elementary School in Grayson County have benefited from the TranspARTation grant over the past three years, going to see plays such as āCharlotteās Web,ā āThe Lightning Thiefā and āThe Berenstain Bears Liveā at Owensboroās RiverPark Center.
āItās a long-lasting, enriching experience that children sometimes donāt get unless they get it in school,ā said Clarkson art teacher Ginger Crain, āIf we donāt help provide these opportunities as teachers and administrators, sometimes students donāt have the community support to get them on their own.ā
Schools receiving TranspARTation Grants must attend arts events presented by one of many preapproved TranspARTation organizations.
