Young Women Lead Conference scheduled for Oct. 28 at NKU

Free conference open to first 1,000 high school girls who register

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (Oct. 7, 2014) — Registration is open for the Fourth Annual Young Women LEAD (YWL) Conference to be held from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 28, at the Northern Kentucky University Bank of Kentucky Center in Highland Heights.

The free conference is for Greater Cincinnati high school girls and focuses on leadership, education and development. Registration is limited to the first 1,000 students and reaches capacity very quickly.

“The purpose of the conference is to empower high school girls to embrace their strengths and to reach their full potential,” said YWL Project Manager Deanna Bowden of Duke Energy.

This year’s keynote speaker is three-time Olympian and six-time aerial skiing national champion, Emily Cook, who overcame significant injuries to both feet to make her Olympic dreams come true.

Participants will also take part in a special presentation from Roadtrip Nation, an organization focused on empowering individuals to define their own road in life instead of traveling down someone else’s road. The presentation will show students how to create their own journey based on their passions. Roadtrip Nation’s RV will also be on site along with its interactive digital app to help young women discover possible career paths based on their interests.

A regional conference is also being held from Oct. 14-15 in Ashland at Ashland Community and Technical College. Registration is open to girls who attend Paul G. Blazer, Fairview, Greenup, Raceland, Rose Hill, Russell and Lewis County high schools. Guest speaker is Julie Marie Carrier.
