More than 5,000 of the cases have been for gynecologic robotic surgery.

“Robotic surgery helps our hospital offer patients the most advanced technology and because this is minimally invasive, it leads to shorter hospital stays, quicker recovery and minimal scarring for patients,” said Daniel Metzinger, M.D., director of robotic surgery at UofL Hospital and a gynecologic oncologist with UofL Health – Brown Cancer Center. “This is safer for our patients and allows them to get back to normal much quicker compared to an open procedure.”

Members of the UofL Health robotic surgery team stop to celebrate the 10,000 procedure milestone their facility recently surpassed.

The robot is used for a variety of diagnoses and is used by multiple specialties, including gynecologic oncology, surgical oncology, urogynecology, colon and rectal surgery, general surgery, otolaryngology, and urology. To learn more, visit our Robotic Surgery page.
