LEXINGTON, Ky. — Commerce Lexington is providing the Money Smart for Small Business program at no cost for aspiring entrepreneurs and existing small business owners.
Many people have dreams of owning their own business, but often they don’t know where to start. It takes research, proper planning, financing and much more to put oneself in a position to realize the dream of owning and operating a business. Investing the time on the front end to learn about the steps necessary can increase the odds of success when starting a small business.
This six-week program developed jointly by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Monday, October 7, in Commerce Lexington’s first floor conference space (330 E. Main St.). Subsequent classes continue each Monday evening at 5:30 p.m. through November 11 and will present an introduction to different topics related to starting and managing a small business. Food will be provided during the classes.
Money Smart classes are taught by Dale Morgan, President & CEO of Foundation47. Some of the modules include planning for a healthy business, types of business structures, banking services available, time management, and more.
Commerce Lexington’s Senior Vice President of Community & Minority Business Development, Tyrone Tyra, said, “We are excited to be able to continue these valuable classes at no cost to business owners and entrepreneurs across our community and region. The classes provide valuable information and resources to those who may be just embarking on their journey to start a business, as well as those who are seasoned business owners in need of a refresher.”
