100% of proceeds benefit the dancers of Louisville Ballet, which has been one of the nation’s leading regional ballet companies since 1952. Led by Chief Executive Leslie Smart and Artistic Directors Mikelle Bruzina and Harald Uwe Kern, Louisville Ballet is an evolved but accessible company committed to boldly and beautifully communicating artistic stories both classic and new. It artists, athletes, activists, inventors, and inspirers aim to move, to evoke emotion, to provoke thought, and to challenge perceptions.
Elizabeth Windisch is a Louisville-based multimedia artist collaborating with interactive and immersive experiential artist Stivan Widick, who is creating an interactive projection experience that sets Windisch’s intricate patterns into movement and flow by capturing Louisville Ballet artists’ live performance of 502.
Elizabeth will introduce a large portion of her “Metamorphoses” collection to the public, highlighting the first piece she created in 2018 called “Icarus” which reimagines Ovid’s parable and depicts a nature spirit that brings hope, but warns against hubris. It then transitions into the rest of the series. Windisch’s style is a mix of Modern Art Deco and Classical pattern work with surreal, metaphysical qualities. Her geometric patterns weave delicate elements together that illuminate the unseen forces of nature and subliminal energies that surround us. In much of her recent work, the letter “W” is hidden throughout as a type of signature.
Stivan will also showcase his light sculpture, “Mycelium Network,” a massive 60- x 40-foot sound-reactive piece that evokes the intricate networks of fungal mycelia connecting the living soil beneath our feet. The work serves as an ode to interconnectedness, a visual metaphor for our intrinsic relationship with nature, each other and the unseen currents that shape life.
