Georgetown Community Hospital has become the first hospital in Kentucky to integrate Intuitive’s new da Vinci 5 surgical robot into its surgical services.
The da Vinci 5 surgical robot represents the latest advancements in robotic-assisted surgery, offering unprecedented precision, flexibility, and control for a wide range of minimally invasive procedures. The cutting-edge technology will enhance the hospital’s ability to provide top-quality care to its patients, particularly in complex surgical specialties.
Renowned bariatric surgeon Dr. Eric Smith said, “The new DV5 surgical robot is a game-changer for our entire surgical team. Not only does it provide enhanced visualization, superior dexterity, and precision over traditional minimally invasive surgery, but this new cutting-edge technology will offer unparalleled data collection that will continue to allow our surgeons to offer exceptional outcomes. It will also offer force feedback to the surgeon that has never been available on current robotic surgery technology.”
In addition to his work at GCH, Smith sits on the surgeon advisory board for Intuitive and was involved in evaluating the development of the technology prior to the global release of the equipment.
Georgetown Community Hospital first introduced robotic-assisted surgery in 2015. Since then, the facility has performed over 6,100 robotic surgeries on the da Vinci platform. The first surgical case performed on the da Vinci 5 robot is slated later this month.
