BJ’s Wholesale Club breaks ground on first Kentucky location

BJ’s Wholesale Club, a Massachusetts-based operator of membership warehouse clubs, has broken ground on its first Kentucky store.

The new 104,137-square-foot store will be located on the site of the former Sears store at the Jefferson Mall in Louisville.

Since its founding in 1984, BJ’s has primarily had locations in New England and along the East Coast but is in the midst of expanding outside that footprint. The Louisville store represents BJ’s entry into its 21st state and will create around 150 jobs.

BJ’s prides itself on offering prices that it says are up to 25% lower than prices at traditional grocery stores. The company also says it is the only warehouse club that accepts manufacturers coupons, which can also be stacked with personalized offers from BJ’s.

The Louisville store is expected to open in early 2025.
