$8.1 million grant awarded to the city of Lexington

WASHINGTON — Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell announced that the City of Lexington will receive a $8,120,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). Funded through the DOT’s Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program, the grant will support the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s project to reconnect Northland and Arlington neighborhoods. Specifically, this includes the replacement of a railroad bridge overpass to allow for ADA-accessible sidewalks and bicycle facilities, as well as improved sidewalks, accessible transit stops, and stormwater collection.

“Upgrading the North Broadway corridor will significantly enhance economic development and public safety in the Northern side of Lexington for decades to come,” said Congressman Barr. “I am proud to have supported this competitive grant application through the Department of Transportation and look forward to seeing the much-needed improvements.”
