Bowling Green-based Houchens Industries has added a New York-based chain of retail eyewear stores to its stable of companies. Cohen’s Fashion Optical has been in business since 1924 and now operates more than 100 stores in New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Florida and Puerto Rico. Houchens, which ranks as the nation’s largest employee-owned company, owns a diverse group of businesses that include real estate, recycling, construction and warehousing companies as well as insurance agencies, a store fixtures manufacturer and an Internet development business. Financial terms of the Cohen transaction have not been disclosed.
