Century Aluminum of Kentucky has closed one of the five potlines at its aluminum smelter in Hawesville in an effort to contain costs. Plant Manager Matt Powell said the cutback were necessary to help reduce significant cash losses. “Since July of last year, aluminum prices have experienced an unprecedented decline of more than 55 percent,” Powell said. The action will impact approximately 120 of the facility’s 750 employees.
