Tamarlane Industries Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides training and employment for individuals with mental and physical disabilities, has received a $918,125 community development block grant to renovate a manufacturing building. Tamarlane currently employs 200 people and expects to add another 50 jobs within the next two years, more than half of which will be filled by low-to-moderate income people. Tamarlane subcontracts with local businesses and industries to provide services such as reconditioning pallets and assembly-type work on dishwasher parts, doorsills and office furniture.
