Macro Plastics, a California-based company that produces bulk plastic containers, has acquired the former Buckhorn manufacturing plant in Shelbyville. Buckhorn, an Akron, Ohio-based plastics company, announced last fall that it would be closing the Shelbyville plant by the end of 2009 as part of the company’s plan to realign production and reduce costs. According to a local report in The (Shelbyville) Sentinel-News, Macro plans to rehire up to 45 of the 88-member Buckhorn staff. Macro officials said the Shelbyville location provides an ideal location from which to supply increasing demand for its products in the central and East Coast regions of the United States, Mexico and Europe. The Shelbyville Macro plant will produce containers for the agricultural, food, industrial and retail markets.
